Services Q&A
What is Silver Diamine Fluoride?
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a liquid treatment used to stop cavities from progressing and to help with tooth sensitivity. It helps strengthen the tooth and targets the bacteria that cause decay. SDF is safe, quick, and painless. It is gently brushed onto the affected area and only takes up to one minute to apply.
One important thing to know is that SDF permanently stains the area of decay where it is placed. This color change shows that the cavity has been treated.

What are dental sealants?
Dental sealants are a preventative treatment that protects the natural grooves and pits found on molars and premolars. These areas can easily trap food and bacteria, making them harder to keep clean. Sealants create a protective barrier over the tooth surface to help prevent cavities from forming on those hard-to-reach areas. The process is quick, comfortable, and does not require drilling or numbing. Sealants can last for several years with proper care.

What is Minimally invasive dentistry?
Minimally invasive dentistry (MID) takes a gentle, whole-health approach to dental care. The focus is on preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible while addressing the root causes of dental problems through guidance on oral hygiene, nutrition, and preventive care. The goal is to reduce discomfort and support overall health and well-being.
One method Dr. Rayna Strong uses is called “SMART” (Silver Atraumatic Restorative Treatment). SMART begins by applying SDF to stop cavities and reduce sensitivity. The tooth is then restored with a biocompatible, tooth-friendly material, such as glass ionomer, helping protect the tooth without drilling or discomfort.
